I've was using KDE Plasma5 since February 2016, and got back to Xfce recently. One of the things that I miss about that desktop must be their file manager Dolphin. It has this great filter bar, which you can easily access by pressing "Ctrl+I", and then you can simply type in the keyword and then only the names with that keyword are displayed in that particular view. I think something like that would work nicely for Thunar.
