Further to the saga, I installed the 19b43 and tried it but still got the same message ie STAT etc. Then I logged into Hotmail, found that there were 31 messages, deleted the max no in one go, and had six left. Went back to TB and those six downloaded immediately.
I can only presume that the problem occurs when the number of messages exceeds the first screen. But, as I know bugger all about the processes involved, my presumption might be just hot air.
