I have been having the Negatives Vibes for a while. Tried both 42b and 43b updates and progressed from "Negative Vibes" to "STAT command error". So as I had nothing else to lose, I switched the Hotmail plugin Mode from 'Hotmail Live' to 'Webdav' and managed to download my mails (59 + 16 junk).
I then changed the mode back to 'Hotmail Live' and it still works (maybe Webdav handles larger mail volume, dunno what webdav does/ differently than Live but it worked for me).
