I had the same problem as christian (as so many other people... xD). Each time I try to check for new messages through Thunderbird, I get the 'negative vibes' things...
I was using the Webmail1.3.3b3, and Hotmail 1.2.19b49. The error message I got was the following : Hotmail-SR-BETA: loginHandler : Exception : TypeError. Error message: szCookie.match(patternHotmailMT) has no properties 304.
