If you can receive from your live.com account in Thunderbird then you almost certainly do not need these extensions at all.
When you are using real email servers you do not get to choose the ports - that is the decision of the owner of the server. For smtp.live.com you need to set the outgoing SMTP entry in Thunderbird to port 25 with SSL as the security setting. If you are using an antivirus program (such as avast) to scan your outgoing email it will prevent that connect being made. If that is your antivirus then let us know and I can assist you getting round the problem.
