I just stumbled across this and figure that the info may help somebody
else.  It seems that certain characters in your hotmail password will
result in the negative vibes password.

I have two hotmail accounts and was somewhat stumped when one stopped
working while the other continued to work perfectly.  After logging in
and verifying that all settings were the same on both accounts in
Thunderbird and also in hotmail's settings online, I finally tried
changing the password.  It worked!

The password on the account that worked only contained letters, but
the other one also contained a symbol.  Sorry, but I haven't tested it
to see which symbols break it and which don't.  Also, sorry if this is
already known information, but I didn't see it in the FAQ.
