Hi again.  Good morning.  I followed the above suggestions and it
still did not work.  This time, I saw it was about to connect, and it
said:  Downloading messages 1 of 24....so, it was on the right track
apparently.....

However, having it changed to beta on both places it gives me a
different error message, this time it tells me:  "The RETR command did
not succeed.  Error retrieving message, mail server local host
responded negative vibes from...."

When I have it to classic on both .com and thunderbird, it does give
me the RETR part, just the negative vibes part.

I'm banging my head against the wall.....but, trying not to...
