Couple of thoughts.

Hotmail is now rolling out free POP and SMTP servers country by
country.  If you reside in on the countries where they are now
available you should use these servers. (Current list: United States,
Brazil, United Kingdom, Canada, Australia, France, Japan, Spain,
Germany, Italy, and the Netherlands)

If you wish to continue trying to get the Hotmail extension to work
then for your Hotmail account to be seen by the Hotmail extension you
must make sure that in the Server Settings panel of the Hotmail
account in Thunderbird you have entered the User Name in full ... for
example ... [email protected]
