In Thunderbird, go to "Tools", "Account settings". In your Hotmail
account, under server settings, use pop3.live.com, port 995 and secure
settings SSL (this will normally change the port to 995 the default for
SSL anyway). The username will be your full Hotmail address and when
requested give your normal password.
Outgoing settings are; server name smtp.live.com, port 587 and use TLS
for secure connection. You set this in Outgoing servers at the bottom of
the Account settings Window. If you're changing from using the
extensions, I would edit the existing localhost SMTP settings, but you
can create a new server setting if you prefer. You can choose which
outgoing server to use from all those set up in Thunderbird in the first
section of your Hotmail account settings.
