The default server in Thunderbird will usually be that of the first account set up unless you have subsequently changed it. You can choose any SMTP server available in the drop down list for use with any account/email address, but some providers block mails with "From" addresses that don't match the registered user name as an anti-spam precaution. For many ISPs there is no check, and you can put anything you like as the from address. You can add or edit Outgoing servers from the option right at the bottom of the Account settings Window, the webmail extensions should have set up "Localhost" as an available server with the correct settings for your Hotmail account. If you have more than one webmail system, i.e. Hotmail and Yahoo, you will have multiple entries for Localhost, best to rename them, so you know which is which.
