I am running Thunderbird 3.0.5 under Linux Mint 9 (Ubuntu 10.04 "Lucid
Lynx" based). There is no "options" item under "tools" or anywhere
else that I can find. If there is a way to view or set the connection
timeout through the GUI I can't find it. Is it in a config file
somewhere? I'm poking around under ~/.thunderbird but I don't see it
anywhere.

I think that the problem may be that the POP server process isn't
running. The status is red in the status bar for POP and SMTP also.
When I right click and choose "enable POP server" it doesn't appear to
do anything. I do see this error on the Error Console when I attempt
to start it:

"nsPOPConnectionManager: Start : Exception : NS_ERROR_FAILURE.
Error message: Component returned failure code: 0x80004005
(NS_ERROR_FAILURE) [nsIServerSocket.init]
52"
