The GZIP/deflate issue was, as far as I can tell, only ever the subject of the failure to retrieve the source of the messages and hence the RETR errors reported in this forum. It was not the source of the "negative vibes" errors.
This issue has been the reason that prevented the Webmail add-on being able to obtain the message source of the messages in the Hotmail Webmail database (and therefore the RETR errors reported). The failures that result in "negative vibes" have, over the years, tended to be those that are related to the failure of the add-on to be able to log in to the Webmail service.
