Under the umbrella of Yahoo.com reside several legacy domains such as
"att.net" and "sbcglobal.net".

These domains login under yahoo.com seamlessly and access web-based
email without problem. However, I am not able to access either of
these domains using the webmail 1.4.3, yahoo 1.5.3 extension with
Thunderbird 6.

I have connectivity between TB6 and the extensions and I have tried to
set them up correctly, yet I cannot retrieve or send email from my web-
based accts. I receive an error message saying an invalid login to
the SMTP server.

If this is simply not possible yet, I would like to know that. If
anyone has had success accessing att.net mail or sbcglobal.net mail, I
would really like to hear about that and I will continue to try to be
sure I have things setup correctly.

New here, thanks in advance for your kind consideration.

ATT Yahoo accounts provide you with the POP server you need. You don't need the extension to access these accounts. You can get the server settings on the ATT website.
