Yep, this one works. Thanks a lot, it saved the day. :) I've been using Minimize To Tray Plus, since long, as I don't stand stumbling on the Thunderbird button in the taskbar, all the time. Also that takes care of starting TB upon system startup, so it does 2 essential things that most applications have but which the TB authors seem to keep missing for many versions now. So, I'm bound to stick with TB v.3 until this extension will be updated for v.6 or v.7, or whatever.
