You can use pop3 with hotmail. but if you download the message to thunderbird and then delete it from webmail, you still have to delete it in thunderbird. If you delete it in thunderbird, it will delete it online as well. I wish hotmail would just support IMAP, but they are way behind.
As for those people that tell you to just switch an email address....do they have like nothing attached to it? I'm losing access in a week to an email address that I've had for about 14 years. I've already had to change like 50 accounts that were attached to it, and I'm still getting several messages a day I have to convert to my other address. I'm sure I'll forget something and when I try to log into another site and I have to reset my password, I won't be able to get the email and wont be able to get into it.
