Comment:

 How? Configure::read() returns null if the key doesn't exist or if the
 value for the respective key is null, see the following example:
 {{{
 Configure::write('example', null);
 Configure::read('example'); // returns null because null is the value for
 the "example" key
 Configure::read('notexistingkey'); // returns null because key doesn't
 exist
 }}}
