 I'm using Windows XP SP2, Apache/2.2.9, PHP Version 5.2.6.

 I found I could lower my memory limit to 11 and still get around my site.
 Any lower and PHP would fatal error saying unable to allocate memory. No
 crashes whatsoever. Nickm's crash appears unrelated to memory issues.

 Are you running any extensions? I had huge crash issues with xDebug.
