 I've been trying to reproduce this using the code provided, but I'm having
 some issues. When used with ```Controller::paginate()``` the page param is
 forced to a number.  And the clean value is set to
 ```$params['paging']['page']```, which is used in all subsequent url
 operations.  The closest I could get to reproducing your bug was to
 manually merge in $passedArgs.  Do you have an example of your controller
 code?
