OK, I figured it out myself. In fact my TW *is* using a custom ViewTemplate. After determining that, it took some more figuring for this novice to decipher the instructions for modifying the ViewTemplate. Once I did, it was right there in black and white, as simple as pie -- *after* I deciphered the instructions.
I've made a note for myself in a tiddler of my own in case I forget what I did to get it to work -- which I am sure to do.
