Hi all, Some of you may have been away on holiday when I announced some changes to No-Brainer Notes. The changes are buried in various threads over the course of December. So this post is an attempt to, um, tie some threads together (no pun intended), and throw in a few new twists.
1. There are now two versions of No-Brainer Notes. 2. The original version uses the HistoryPlugin. I recently added the backward, forward and history buttons to all tiddlers using Viewtemplate to facilitate navigation and added a few other changes inspired by Morris Gray's TW Notes (which is based on NBN). Thanks to Morris for his great new tweaks and features. The original version can be found here: http://www.giffmex.org/nobrainernoteswithouttabs.html 3. The new version, which is now the official version accessible from my website, uses the TiddlerBarPlugin, so that while you only see one tiddler at a time, you can see your open tiddlers via tabs. I originally didn't like the TiddlerBarPlugin, but after playing with it a bit on NBN, I have grown to like it. The new, official, TiddlerBar version can be found here: http://www.giffmex.org/nobrainernotes.html 4. Both versions add a feature that will be helpful if you ever need to create a ForEachTiddler index of your notes and topics. Now all new subtopics and notes have the 'note' tag added to them, whether they are created from the topmenu or from the new here button in the tiddler toolbar. 5. Both versions correct a short-lived mistake I made: when adding the feature in #4, I accidentally imported the version of NewHerePlugin that I used for the Spanish version. So new here tiddlers were being created with a Spanish tag in them (nota) rather than the necessary English tag (note). Thanks to Morris Gray for spotting that. 6. In both versions, instead of 'new here', the new here button reads *create subtopic within this topic*. Though it's a bit long, I thought this would be clearer for newbies than 'new here'. The goal of NBN is to be as no-brainer as possible so that new people can jump right in. TW pros can open ViewTemplate and change that back in their own copies if it's too long for their tastes. No-Brainer Notes is a work in progress, like everything else I do. If anyone has any other suggestions or corrections, I'll be happy to consider them. Morris Gray has a couple of versions of TW Notes based on NBN. These have features not included in NBN, and are worth your consideration as well. Happy note-taking and happy new year!
