The above syntax is correct and, when pasted into a test document,
worked as expected.

Even so, it is still possible to reproduce the erroneous results you
described, simply by inserting a space character between the * and the
@ within the nested slider syntax.

If you eliminate this improper use of whitespace, that *should* fix
the problem.
