With a little bit of tinkering and thinking about the divs and spans
and the difference between them, I was able to solve it like this:

<div class='toolbar'><span macro='toolbar
[[ToolbarCommands::ViewToolbar]]'></span><span macro='newHere
label:"new here"'></span></div>

so kudos for me :D
