I forgot to say I didn't alter the code for the google static maps
problem, as this solution  it not as elegant as the open street maps
version - it saves lots more files and can create quite alot of disk
usage. I'll update the code when I find a more elegant solution but
thanks for reminding me! Glad it's working for you now with
OpenStreetMap though!! :)

In terms of zoom levels yes open street maps will only work for zoom
levels 1,2,4,8,16,32,64,128 etc..  I wanted to give a bit more
flexibility in zoom levels as if you are using geojson polygons zoom
level 25 might come in useful for you for some reason. I think that
maybe in openstreetmaps mode it should default to the closest zoom
level.. what do you think?
