Different strengths for different use-cases. Rather than discussing a feature-by-feature comparison of the two systems, here's some higher- level considerations that might be relevant: * TiddlyWiki is an open source system. One aspect of open source systems is that the development of their feature set tends to be driven by the need to solve practical, real-world problems, in flexible, low-cost ways. This is especially true when applied to under-funded and/or under-resourced areas, such as social services, education, health care, community outreach, etc. TiddlyWiki is available *free of charge*, and is guaranteed to remain so as long as the copyright is being held "in the public trust" by The UnaMesa Association, a 501C non-profit - http://www.UnaMesa.org * Each TiddlyWiki document is completely self-contained, stand-alone "application" built upon standard browser technologies: HTML, CSS, Javascript. Knowedge of HTML, CSS, and Javascript is widespread, and numerous programming tools and libraries exist to make rapid development of new features possible. Because TiddlyWiki is built upon on these common technologies, the opportunities for further innovation with TiddlyWiki are also much greater than with any given proprietary system. * Other than a common web browser, which typically comes pre-installed on nearly every system, nothing extra needs to be downloaded along with the TiddlyWiki document: there is no need to install any special software at all. Not only does this make TiddlyWiki documents highly portable (which you already noted), but it also completely eliminates the cost of acquiring any additional software. Also, because it does not require installation, TiddlyWiki can often be used within business environments where systems are tightly controlled, and installing extra applications may not be permitted. * TiddlyWiki is highly customizable, and allows you to easily change the layout and appearance of the interface as well as incorporate modifications and enhancements into the feature set of the underlying TiddlyWiki system simply by creating text tiddlers containing suitable CSS, HTML and javascript function/data definitions that are stored directly within the document and are automatically applied as an 'overlay' to the base TiddlyWiki system each time the document is loaded into the browser. enjoy, -e Eric Shulman TiddlyTools / ELS Design Studios --~--~---------~--~----~------------~-------~--~----~ You received this message because you are subscribed to the Google Groups "TiddlyWiki" group.
