The goal here was to produce a calendar that was easy on the eye
(without micro-fonts) and yet perform the essence of what a quick
pocket calendar would. This consists mainly of knowing what day of the
week a particular date falls on, and being able to count one or two
weeks across month boundaries.

That said, here's my first stab at it:

If you want to know, for instance, what day of the week the 4th of
July occurs (7/4, US) or what day of the week Guy Fawkes day occurs
(5/11, UK) then you just look for the day of the month in the lower
calendar, and then find where its column crosses with the appropriate
month row (labeled on right edge). So we can see that the first
holiday occurs on a Saturday, and the second on a Thursday this year.
A running accumulative total indicates the number of days in the year
at the start of each month, so we can rapidly calculate that there are
304 - 181 -4 + 5 = 124 days between the two disparate holidays.

Enjoy ... or not!

Mark
