The backstage importer doesn't just report an error, it changes the
path name. I suppose this is to prevent the security error that will
arise if you import from an off-directory file.

There's a certain humor to this -- I can import from a questionable
server in Timbuktu, but not from a file deliberately selected on my
own hard drive!

Eric's plugin allowed me to import from a separate directory path on
FF 3.0.11 under XP using TW 2.5.2 successfully. Maybe later I'll try
it with FF 3.5.
