D3 is by far more simpler than mGTD and more strict to GTD. After reading the GTD book, you are ready to use D3. If I remember, D3's 1.3 version it's the same 1.2 version wich had his TW core updated to 2.5.0 version. mGTD if's by far more powerfull, but needs you understand well his concepts.
