Thanks Fred. I realised what it was - I was assuming it might do a natural sort. So "10 October" appears before "9 October". (I was assuming I had the wrong syntax anyway, as it was a guess, so I didn't look any further.) As an aside, there are Javascript libraries around for natural sort, which might be worth incorporating into the filter mechanism some day.
