Brilliant idea! And, interestingly, there is an animation when one does click the close button, that visually swoops it left(!) off screen so it's almost as if it we're already telling people that it is. IMO swiping left rather than right makes more sense because on the right there's the sidebar on bigger screens.
Do note that with the Ctrlpanel > Appearance > ThemeTweaks ... Sticky titles will make the title row, including the buttons, to stick to top of screen so you don't have to scroll.
