I was surprised to learn that, indeed, it doesn't filter out duplicates. I learn something new every day. Good you got what you wanted anyway.
Refreshing... that'd be another thing I did not expect then but I can't reproduce it. When I try it, it even refreshes while I'm still editing (another) tiddlers context field and also when I'm using a button to set the field.
