It's not the number of tags, it's the number of items that share a tag. And it's mostly when using the tag filter operator. I found my 36,000 item dictionary ground to a halt when I used the tag filter. I reworked the filter so that it didn't need "tag", and now the dictionary has more than 60,000 items.
