Hi Dave,

you can use diffutils or patch for it, depending on your OS.

The diff is explained here: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Diff
And on Unixes, the patch tool is available: 
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Patch_(Unix)
I use ordinary text editors to read these files and diff and patch to work 
with them.
