More often than not people use tags. In my recently published code mirror edition I have an open all close all option on tag pills. So you can quickly open all tiddlers with a given tag. I tend to give tiddlers a field like object-type with a value of note task etc.. And would only ever open or list all task tiddlers not tagged done as an example.
