Maybe you can try using your own colour name, defining it in a color 
mapping tiddler

$:/config/DefaultColourMappings/<colour-name>

So you can use <<colour cm-highlight>>, for example, where cm-highlight is 
defined in 

$:/config/DefaultColourMappings/cm-highlight
