I am not sure how useful this will be for anyone else. For another project I wrote a parser for tiddlywiki style filters, and part of that I had to make a more detailed description of the different operator types than just 'construction' and 'selection'. I came up with 6 categories that I hope are the fundamental types of operators, construction, filtering, transformation, replacement, list, and list replacement.
