This works exactly as I want! Thank you! You mention that this usage is fragile. Is it because the footnote information is actually being accessed twice - once while being transcluded in the data values, and again, for showfnotes, in the data tiddlers themselves?
Pardon if my questions are mislead. I'm at the point of understanding where I can't easily tell the difference between dangerous or fragile usage and standard expected behavior. Waiting anxiously for the Grok Tiddlywiki book! Thanks again for the solution. Since it's only being used in a private, personal wiki, I'm willing to take a chance with the fragility until I figure out another way to provide the functionality..
