Check if this is occurring only when you are using your TW document or does it happen with any long text on other web pages too. Try browsing the tiddlytools site(which is quite a TW large site), does the browser become generally slow and unresponsive when you browse through tiddlers there?
Also check the same thing using different browsers. It could be that your OS needs a bit de-cluttering, starting with deleting temp files of the browser and similar things.
