The reason I wanted the readOnly option is so if I need to go in and edit it
later, I can just add the #readOnly:No and have the sidebar display.

Otherwise, I'd have to do some major mojo that I don't know how to do to get
it to show the sidebar.

The problem is that I don't want the end-user to see, or be able to use, the
toggle. I want it all to happen behind the scenes.
