This query is a result of an inner split in my mind on whether I should make a mid-life switch to an IT career or look for something more easier. The issue of keeping mind free from heaviness and cultivating mindfulness and alertness is important for me. Although I like spending time coding some small amateur things it is no where near real-life programming. And the symptoms i described in my query often afflict me, which is why I wanted a third party opinion to help me form a balanced view on what to expect if I go into some kind of programming at this late stage in life.
