I've got a similarly half-baked word-counting plugin that I'll work up into a proper shareable format as soon as I get a chance. As to counting characters in a tiddler -- I'm not sure how to do it off-hand, but the answer probably lies in Tobias's element-defined counting script and Simon Baird's old WordCountMacro plugin. I may not get a chance to tackle this any time soon -- work's gotten busy again :( -- but it would be GREAT to come up with a new plugin that could count words or characters in a tiddler and echo them into the tiddler header info. (Mr. Baird's plugin gives a by-tiddler word count displayed in the header.)
