FWIW, I'm still happily using TiddlerEncryptionPlugin, using <<EncryptionDecryptAll "..." "..." "" "d">> to decrypt all tiddlers on keypress - so after loading the document, I simply press ALT+D to bring up the decryption dialog, enter my password, then hit ALT+F to search. This has worked well for me for years.
