I haven't tried it, but the way to go would be to edit the ViewTemplate shadow tiddler, wrapping the elements that you wanna wrap in new element that you would adorn with various CSS attributes (padding, background-image) - either directly or (better) by assigning a class name to your new element and referencing that in the StyleSheet tiddler.
