According to "soulman", the problem is that I am updating through IE instead of Firefox (since it is currently impossible to update with Firefox for this version...), which mangles foreign characters and diacritical marks. So... I need to download some other version of Firefox or something? Or will this be fixed soon and I can just wait to update until then? Judging by these threads, I most people who use TiddlyWiki seem to be programmer types; I find the software more useful than, say, OneNote for my academic purposes and so far I have simply been able to use the program, updating and downloading useful plugins as needed with minimal technical abilities. I hope that support for luddites like me will continue in the future! Many thanks in advance. PS - I saw "TiddlySpace" mentioned in some other threads... but the website does not really explain what it is exactly. Is it sort of TiddlyWiki online or something?
