I'm afraid that's rather "hard-coded" into the plugin. There even are some variables you can tweak in the code that allow you to define when the columns actually break.
So essentially, it reads: "After reaching x entries, create a new column and keep on putting stuff there..." However, this really only affects the columns in the middle... the leftmost and rightmost columns are independent. For sure, this will probably not look good with huge lists, so there will be some funny scrollbars at some point.
