Though there is documentation about adding any tiddler or a search input box to the backstage area at:
http://oldwiki.tiddlywiki.org/wiki/Dev:Backstage#Customization the example about the 'saveChanges' macro there doesn't really works - for example: with the 'newTiddler' macro. Though SaveAsPlugin would give a working example at the end of it's plugin code: http://www.tiddlytools.com/#SaveAsPlugin and this code adapted indeed creates a button for the macro. This however, still doesn't invoke the new tiddler macro .
