Sorry I can't give a more complete answer, but personally I recommend using the latest Firefox v3 with standard TW, especially to ensure compatibility with plugins that haven't been updated.
Since I also use FF kept updated as an "installed" (=registered with Windows) app, I use the Portable Apps version, which doesn't require installation, can be run from any arbitrary location, including an external drive where the drive letter may change. It is also compatible with Prism, to create standalone TiddlyWiki "applications" that strip out the FF navigation kruft.
