What would you consider that type of statement to be? It doesn't fit
in with the <<macro>> formatting thats described everywhere, but I've
seen it referred to as a macro. Is it a special case of a macro that
doesn't need <<>>? What else fits into this category? Is there an
existing resource that describes this?

The tag parameter is mentioned at http://www.tiddlywiki.com/#Reference
but I haven't found much of anywhere that describes what and where the
syntax like the item in the title can be used.
