Hi Oliver

There are several options.
However not all workarounds are elegant.
If you are a regular reader of this group you might have noticed
HansBKK posts?
He advises people with similar issues to use FireFox version 3.6.9.
There are portable firefox apps for linux, mac and ms and by using
firefox 3.6.9 you get back the intended functionality like import.

It is also possible to run several firefox versions the same time with
the usages of "profiles":
http://howtoos.nl/#MultipleFireFoxes (for linux)

But!

Mario pointed out the following:
"
The upcoming problem I see with FF3.6 is: It won't get any security
fixes after April 24th [1][2]. The "TW core update", "save to
tiddlyspot", "import to and from file TWs" problems have to be
addressed but using 3.6, for me, isn't an option anymore after April
24th.

So there is some limited time left if security is important to you.

The other solution is to enable CORS on the server.
You can check (with firefox 10) that several sites do allow you to
import to local tw (they do have CORS enabled).
TiddlyTools
TiddlySpace
GieWiki

So if you have a huge pile of tiddlers you might want to import to one
of the services (with CORS enabled) and import from there to a local
tw. (and both GieWiki and TiddlySpace allow you to download a tw
also).

DropBox is another problem:
It's not open-source and since you cannot run your own instance you
cannot fix the CORS problem there.
Lately I have created some zip files in my public DropBox folder to
provide downloads.
Try importing:
http://dl.dropbox.com/u/9670094/zandkasteel/newsfeed.html
Wont work...
And thus:
http://dl.dropbox.com/u/9670094/zandkasteel/newsfeed.zip

So if you are not the owner of the server or cannot get CORS enabled
it seems the best solution to move tiddlers over to TiddlySpace or
GieWiki to provide an importable set of tiddlers.
