I am delighted to announce that Eric Shulman has accepted the role of lead developer for 'classic' TiddlyWiki. He's taking over from Martin Budden who is leaving Osmosoft to pursue other interests.
As we all know, Eric is already the incredible powerhouse at the heart of the TiddlyWiki community. He maintains a prodigious library of plugins at http://tiddlytools.com/, and is second to none with his patient and inventive answers to questions on the group. In fact, given that tiddlywiki.com currently checks in at 568KB and tiddlytools.com is 2690KB, his new role will only increase his codebase by just over 20%. Anyhow, Eric will now also manage the TiddlyWiki road map and release cycle, and start to use GitHub to process the tickets, patches and pull requests that power the TiddlyWiki development process. He's got a bit of a learning curve to get to grips with git and GitHub (one I'm still stumbling over myself) but as he gets up to speed we hope he'll be able to run the engine a little hotter than in the past. The plan is for Eric to use TW5 as the build tool for both tiddlywiki.com and tiddlytools.com, ensuring that he keeps a foot in both the old and the new camps, giving the community continuity as we transition from the old code to the new. Part of the motivation for the change is to allow me to focus on TiddlyWiki5 development, and building up consultancy work to fund it. But it's also a first step towards the "TiddlyWiki collective", pulling together a core group who are dedicated to working on TiddlyWiki, and creating a sustainable business model to do so. Right now, the collective is "pre-revenue" and so Eric still needs our generosity and support in order to survive. I'd urge you to read Eric's post from last year, and encourage you to contribute if you are able to. https://groups.google.com/d/topic/tiddlywiki/JcTOoBxGwXA/discussion As I've said elsewhere, I want to build TiddlyWiki into a product that endures for 25 years, remaining useful and relevant. I hope therefore that we're really just at the start of the story.
