I your sidebar (SidebarOptions) there's a slider "options »" where you tick the option for saving backups. I see no reason why this (cookie-based) option shouldn't work, just because you move the upload macro to another place? Maybe you opened the page from another browser (or deleted all cookies) in the meantime?
